This shift is not comparable to the Industrial Revolution, despite how many politicians portray it. The industrial revolution created many jobs and opportunities, it was a major contributor the growth of the middle class, creating wealth for many, and a source of stability for the country and its citizens.
Automation has, for several years, been steadily displacing jobs across a wide range of sectors. From self checkout systems in supermarkets and the decline of bank tellers, to automated airline check in desks and the increasing use of robotics in manufacturing and warehousing, the shift is already well underway. What distinguishes the current phase, however, is not the existence of automation itself, but the accelerating pace at which it is advancing, driven by rapid technological development.
